Golf Thoughts: Should The Players Be A Major?

One of the hottest topics around at the moment is if golf should add The Player's Championship to the Major counts or not. Honestly, my opinion on this is worth next to nothing, but I'm going to give this a resounding no. There are four majors and there should always be four majors. Unless you are going to remove one of them (and a case could be made for the PGA dropping and the TPC being added) I think it is a pointless thing to even bring up.

The PGA Tour has turned most events into a media spectacle which is a good thing, but they are so caught up on giant purses and the crowd experience that they may be damaging the game more right now than helping it. My change of direction for them would be to reinvest some additional funds into the lower towers and the LPGA Tour to grow the game and allow MORE people to make a decent living at it rather than line the pockets of the top .001% of the players that actually win an event.
